Know how to do CPR

WATCH: Video on how to perform CPR that can save a life.

Do you know what to do in an emergency situation when someone stops breathing?

Knowing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) can save a life.

November is CPR awareness month and recently Quick Response Service (QRS) paid a visit to Caxton Johannesburg West of which the Herald is a part, to give a CPR demonstration.

CPR is used to maintain blood flow throughout the body of a person in cardiac arrest as well as to ventilate the person for a short period of time until he or she receives proper medical treatment.

If a person is in cardiac arrest and does not have proper blood flow, the brain and organs can be seriously damaged. The person can die within minutes if not treated immediately.

According to QRS, if one is trained in First Aid or CPR, one can do compression on a victim until paramedics arrive and potentially save a life.

Do your part this month to get a CPR certification to be able to save a life.
