New centre for those in need

'We want to let the community know there is somewhere to go, there is a place of safety.'

Try to imagine a centre that has it all – a centre that offers a safe haven as well as counselling for abused women and children, orphans, HIV sufferers and the elderly, a centre that is actively searching for people in need of help.

Since 24 October, that centre is the Bophelong Community Development Centre located in Simunye Extension 1.

Even though they are still busy with administration and refurbishing the centre, they are actively searching for people in need of their assistance.

“We have caregivers that are currently doing house visits. They are going from door to door to see if there’s anyone who requires our help. Even though we don’t really have funds at the moment, we are really trying to accommodate those in need, ” Lebotsamang Matasi, centre manager said.

According to Lebotsamang they have come across a household with nine children and an unemployed father. “This household needs serious attention as the children are unable to even go to school. We are still busy analysing the situation, but we plan on helping them with clothes and food parcels as soon as possible,” Lebotsamang said.

They also managed to assist an elderly woman by taking her to a clinic to get much-needed medical care.

“We want to create job opportunities in the future and at the same time we want to let the community know that there is somewhere to go – a place of help and safety,” she concluded.
