Top 10 tips to prepare for Black Friday

Do you know what Black Friday is? We've got you covered.

With tomorrow being Black Friday and most people not really knowing what it means, the Herald though it best to educate our readers in the American frenzy taking over South Africa.

According to Wikipedia, Black Friday is the day following Thanksgiving Day in the United States (the fourth Thursday of November). Since the early 2000s, it has been regarded as the beginning of the Christmas shopping season in the US, and most major retailers open very early (and more recently some are open overnight) and offer promotional sales.

Tomorrow stores such as Checkers, Pick n Pay, Edgars, Dis-Chem, Toys ‘R Us and numerous others will embark on a nationwide Black Friday campaign with exuberant savings on offer.

But, how do you prepare for Black Friday? The Herald has compiled an easy yet comprehensive list of tips to help you come prepared:

1. This afternoon, scout the shops you want to buy from, check out the isles and get to know where the special will be.

2. Don’t wear bright clothing on Black Friday. Stick to the theme and make sure you wear takkies because you are going to run up and down isles.

3. Make sure everyone at home is fed and ready for their day quite early and make sure your schedule is clear.

4. If you expected at work tomorrow, get someone to cover for you while you shop till you drop.

5. Make sure you know what you want – take the pamphlets along as reference and be there early.

6. Practise phrases such as “Trevor Noah just walked in” beforehand, so that if you need to clear an isle, it will not be a problem. Oh, and by the way, Trevor Noah actually is in town!

7. Get your negotiations skills prepped, you might need to use your puppy eyes or crazy-lady talk to grab the only remaining special on the shelf.

8. Take your step counter thingy-majigi along to see how much you exercised. #stepsercise

9. Find interesting topics to discuss while you wait in the queues, it might take a while to pay for all your great buys!

10. Oh and make sure you leave enough money in your account for your electricity bill otherwise next Friday also will be Black Friday!
