Two foreigners gunned down

Foreign nationals from Zimbabwe gunned down in cold blood, police say.

Two alleged Zimbabwean nationals were recently shot and killed in what is believed to be an illegal mining related shooting.

The men aged 24 and 34 were killed on Saturday, 12 November, said Constable Lucky Matome, Tarlton Police spokesperson.

The shooting allegedly took place at approximately 5.30pm in Tshepisong Phase 7 in Kagiso. The 34-year- old man was declared dead at the scene while the younger victim was rushed to the nearest hospital, but succumbed to his fatal injuries before he could get further medical treatment.

“The victims were found with multiple gunshot wounds. A pistol and ammunition were also found at the scene,” Matome said.

He added the motive for the killings could possibly be linked to illegal mining activities.

The case has been taken over by the Gauteng Provincial Investigating Unit, which is investigating a case of murder.

The West Rand Cluster Police are appealing to members of the public to contact them with any information that can assist in the investigation.

During the same week of the murders, the West Rand Cluster managed to round up 457 suspects for crimes ranging from hijacking to shoplifting.

The acting West Rand Cluster Commander, Brigadier Mashole Jacob Manamela, who also serves as the Randfontein Police station commander applauded the members for their hard work. He also encouraged the community to work hand in hand with the police to combat crime, especially by giving anonymous tip-offs.
