Vicious cigarette robbers wanted by police

Police say one of three suspects on the run following a vicious robbery is armed and dangerous.

The Bekkersdal Police have launched a manhunt for a number of suspects after a man was robbed at gunpoint of money and cigarettes.

The incident took place in Godlo Street, Bekkersdal one Sunday morning last month, said Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, the Bekkersdal Police spokesperson.

The 29-year-old victim alleged he was at his business in Godlo Street when he was confronted by three men, one armed with a gun and the others with knives.

One of the knife-wielding suspects allegedly searched the victim and took an undisclosed amount of money, plus his box of cigarettes from him. Shortly after they’d robbed the man, a Toyota Corolla sedan pulled up next to the crime scene and the suspects got in and sped off.

The suspects are currently still on the run, Lefakane said. She added that the victim only managed to identify one of the three suspects.

“The suspect is deemed to be armed and dangerous,” Lefakane said.

The Bekkersdal Police are urging anyone who has more information about the incident to contact Warrant Officer Bernard Makgato on 072 561 9417. Alternatively, the Bekkersdal Police can be contacted on 071 675 7171/ 071 675 7177/ 072 561 9523.
