Police warn negligent parents

Local police issue warning regarding child neglect and abandonment.

A general warning has been issued by local police regarding child neglect and abandonment.

According to Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, two incidents of lost children were reported to local police around the Bekkersdal precinct since Sunday, 13 November.

The local police found children, from seven years old and younger wandering on the streets of this area.

According to Lefakane a passer-by would then bring these children to the police station ‘for safekeeping’.

After a few hours a parent would come to the office and claim that the child was playing with friends next door, which, according to the police is unacceptable.

Parents should monitor their children and ensure they know where they are at all times.

“We are going to be very harsh from now on as the community was warned against this practice on several occasions in Public and Sector Crime meetings,” said station commander Colonel Mbangwa Nkhwashu.
