Man tries to stab brother, kills father instead

Man sentenced to eight years imprisonment after stabbing his father to death.

A man was sentenced to eight years imprisonment recently after stabbing his father to death.

Siyabonga Madoli, 28, was convicted and sentenced in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 7 November.

The stabbing took place on 25 December last year after the father had tried to stop a fight between Madoli and his brother.

According to Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, the victim and his two sons were enjoying their Christmas in Simunye when an argument broke out between the two siblings.

Madoli then allegedly took out a knife and wanted to stab his brother. The father stepped in and was stabbed instead.

“He was taken to a nearby clinic where he died upon arrival. The suspect was arrested immediately,” Lefakane said.

Through an investigation led by detective Warrant Officer Bernard Makgato, his bail application was denied and he has been in custody since his arrest.

Madoli was sentenced to eight years imprisonment and was declared unfit to possess a firearm.

“The investigating officer welcomed the sentence. He said this will serve as a warning to the suspect not to resort to violent behaviour,” Lefakane said.
