MOTH Remembrance Day a huge success

'We thank all who participated in and attended the parade. It was a parade to be remembered.'

“The legacy of heroes is the memory of a great name and the inheritance of a great example,” said Benjamin Disraeli.

On Sunday, 13 November all Randfontein and Krugersdorp members of the Memorable Order of the Tin Hats (MOTH) Club, as well as members of the public, were reminded of the fallen heroes of World War I and World War II.

This annual memorial was held at one of Randfontein’s iconic landmarks and the West Rand District’s youngest shell hole, the Caprivi Bomgat.

“This is Randfontein’s third Remembrance Day parade for the fallen. The very first one was held in 2000, we had another one last year, and this year again,” said Gary Venton, member of the MOTH club and the parade organiser.

During this memorial, a prayer was said, a poem was read and flags were lowered to half-mast to honour the lives of the fallen, among other things.

A march was also dedicated by the Glen Allen Pipe Band with their Pipe Major, Craig Paxton, the MOTH Club and the First Discovery Scout Group. ‘Amazing Grace’ was one of the songs played by this pipe band, and it certainly touched the heart of numerous members.

According to Gary, this Remembrance Day parade was a huge success.

“We thank all who participated in and attended the parade. It was a parade to be remembered,” he concluded.
