UPDATE: Woman found dead in car murdered

Local police confirm a case of murder is being investigated after a woman was found dead in her car.

The Randfontein Police have confirmed that a case of murder is being investigated after a woman was found dead in her car in Toekomsrus on Monday, 14 November.

According to Captain Appel Ernst, the Randfontein Police spokesperson, “A 37-year-old woman was brutally murdered in Toekomsrus during the evening of Sunday 13 November. It is alleged the victim was driving in her red VW Polo and was supposed to pick up someone in Toekomsrus.

“She allegedly did not return home at 8pm and the family started searching for her. The vehicle’s tracking system was activated and on Monday 14 November 2016 at 6am the vehicle was recovered.

“It was found abandoned on the corner of Cherry and Stormrivier Streets, Toekomsrus. The tracking company employee then made a gruesome discovery in the abandoned vehicle.

The female driver was found on the back seat of the vehicle. She had been brutally murdered.”

Primary investigations indicate that she succumbed to multiple stab wounds. The Randfontein Police and scene experts spent numerous hours on the scene in order to collect all necessary evidence. Distraught family members were also gathered at the scene.

A case of murder has been opened and intense investigation is underway. The Westrand Trio Task team was also deployed to assist in follow-up investigations.

The police are also calling on the community to assist them with information.
