Child, 4, dies after eating ‘poisoned’ sandwich

Four year old boy dies after eating 'deadly sandwich'.

A little boy aged four died shortly after eating what seemed to be a harmless sandwich during the weekend.

Constable Lucky Matome, the Tarlton Police spokesperson confirmed the incident and said it took place between 7.30am and 2pm on Sunday 13 November.

Five children from the OR Tambo informal settlement in Elandsvlei, Randfontein ate sandwiches and all of them got sick as a result.

Captain Kay Makhubela from the Gauteng Police said the five children were between the ages of four and 10.

“Paramedics were summoned and unfortunately one of the boys was certified dead. The other four were taken to the nearest hospital for medical attention,” Matome said.

The Randfontein Police are currently conducting an inquest into the young boy’s death.
