Security guard in critical condition

Mapogo Security reaction officer who was gunned down when he responded to a carjacking is in a critical condition.

The Mapogo Security reaction officer who was wounded in the line of duty recently has been identified as Marius Nienaber.

Nienaber, a husband and father, was gunned down when he responded to a carjacking on Kiewiet Street, Helikon Park on Friday, 4 November.

When he confronted the robbers, they shot him. According to Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson, he was shot twice – once in the shoulder and once in the thigh, leaving him in critical condition.

Nienaber was rushed to Netcare Milpark Hospital by helicopter.

According to Johan Cronje from Mapogo Security, Nienaber is doing well under the circumstances. He is awake and responding.

He added, however, that Nienaber has a tube down his throat. Cronje explained that all Nienaber seems to want at this point is his wife and children.

On their Facebook page Mapogo asked everybody to keep Nienaber in their prayers.

Nienaber’s current condition is not known, however, when he was rushed to hospital, Quick Response Service (QRS), who treated him said he was in critical condition.
