Miss Toekomsrus foundation making strides

Six pageant queens earn bragging rights after Miss Gauteng.

The Toekomsrus Philanthropic Foundation Arts Academy has been making strides in the community.

The Foundation was founded in 2010 by Samantha Carlese who recognises the importance of giving back, which is the main reason she started the foundation.

Within the Foundation there is a ‘Miss Toekomsrus’ section, which strives to teach young girls the importance of looking after their minds, bodies and souls. In addition to pageantry, girls and women are taught to set goals and make a difference in the community.

“For some of the kids, we are considered guardians as they do not have parents,” Samantha said.

Since the beginning of the year, the Foundation has managed to feed over 100 children, give 25 children school uniforms and provide 20 children with stationary parcels.

The Foundation also runs a project called the ‘Cinderella Programme‘ in which make-up, dresses and hair products are collected to give matriculants the matric farewell of their dreams.

In terms of pageantry, this year the foundation earned bragging rights after several of their members did well at the Miss Gauteng Pageant.

Achievers at the Miss Gauteng Pageant:

• Cadbury Horseley – Tiny Miss Gauteng
• Busisiwe Khumalo – Little Miss Gauteng
• Linden Watson – Miss Gauteng Junior Teen
• Astonia Seheri – Miss Gauteng Pre-teen 1st Princess
• Jdee Hild – Miss Gauteng Junior Teen 1st Princess
• Robin Patrick – Miss Gauteng Junior Teen 2nd Princess

“We would like to encourage the mothers to get involved in the academy with their children as this is not just a beauty school, it is an enrichment programme for the youth in our community. We strive to make sure that no matter how bad your circumstances are, we will help you get through it and become a success in life,” Samantha said.

For more information on the foundation, the Foundation’s secretary, Pamela Thyssen, can be contacted on 084 068 1620.

Alternatively Beverly Beaukes or Victoria Sechel from the Foundation can be contacted on 060 303 6949 or 082 359 2486 respectively. They can also be found on Facebook under ‘Miss Toekomsrus’.

Miss Toekomsrus’ girls and women practice at the RWC Church in Westergloor every Tuesday and Thursday from 5pm to 7pm.
