12 injured in car/ taxi crash

One victim airlifted, 11 others injured in a taxi/ car collision.

Twelve people were injured during the morning of Tuesday, 1 November, when a taxi and a car collided in Station Street, Carletonville.

According to Chitra Bodasing Harduth, ER24 spokesperson, ER24 as well as other services attended to the accident and found both vehicles on the side of the road.

She added, “One passenger in the taxi was trapped. He was extricated by the Fire and Rescue Department. The driver and a passenger in the car were found still seated in the car. These victims were assessed and found to have sustained critical injuries. The other victims sustained minor to moderate injuries.”

The driver of the car was airlifted to hospital, while the remaining victims were treated and transported to various hospitals by ambulance.

The exact cause of the incident is unknown. Authorities were on scene.
