UPDATE: Man-eating manhole victim alleges broken foot

The victim of a poorly covered manhole came back from hospital with a cast on her leg and foot.

A foot allegedly broken in three places, a cast and back muscle damage is what a poorly covered manhole has done to a Randgate woman.

Michelle Viljoen was walking her children to school when she stepped onto a poorly covered manhole which broke, causing her to nearly fall in the hole. Fortunately, she was able to prevent the plunge.

Viljoen, who has no medical aid, went to the Dr Yusuf Dadoo Hospital for treatment of her injuries. She now claims to have broken her foot in three places and sustained back muscle injuries. She has a cast on her foot and the lower half of her leg, and has to use crutches to assist her walking.

Viljoen explained she has not been able to sleep because of the pain she is in.

She has trouble walking and whereas she was previously the breadwinner, she now has to depend on her fiancé, Peet Becker, who has cancer and is disabled. He now has to take their children to school and back.

The Herald approached the Rand West Local Municipality for comment on the matter, but to no avail.
