R’fontein hosts a Festa of note

The extreme heat on Sunday did not deter people from enjoying one of the most famous festivals to be held every year, the Festa Portuegesa.

Randfontein’s annual Portuguese festival, the Festa Portuegesa, which was held on Sunday 30 October, at the Saint Eugene de Mazenod Centre, was once again a big hit .

When the Herald arrived at noon, there was already a buzz in the air, fires were lit, and residents and visitors from all over the country were having a feast of a time.

A fair number of visitors came from Krugersdorp, some came from the East Rand and many others were from Randfontein. The Herald spoke to a couple, Alan Quaresma, 44 and Beatrice Kruger, 22, who were on their way back from Hartebeespoort Dam and just happened to pop in for a good time.

Johah Veanzil, 51, from Stockholm in Sweden, was in South Africa, visiting friends and decided to join in the fun too.

The extreme heat did not deter people from enjoying one of the most famous festivals in town. Andre Nunes, from Sungate, was very excited about the day. He and his team were proudly posing for photos.

Besides the delicious food, cheerful atmosphere and refreshing drinks, there was some exciting entertainment, including Tanya V, the Mario Gomez Hip-Hop Academy, a group of traditional folk dancers, the Mojito Swing Band from Pretoria, and an awesome DJ.

Sandra Avelar, one of the organisers, said, “This was our biggest, most successful Festa ever!” and added there were many feet, people coming and going, as well as an overload of fun.

“We sold out on almost everything!”
