Beloved dog missing after criminals target house

Beloved Pekingese disappears after thieves gained entry to a property in Middelvlei.

A beloved family pet has disappeared after thieves gained entry to a property in Middelvlei.

Thieves gained entry into the home through their vibracrete wall. They took the wall apart slab by slab to get to bikes on the premises. Co-owner of the home, Felicity Hunter, said they took a small bike and bike batteries before fleeing.

The space in the wall remained after the thieves fled, and was discovered by the family’s dogs Mace and Chico – both Pekingese – discovered while Hunter was out on Monday, 17 October.

Hunter explained both the dogs must have left the premises but only one returned home – Chico, Mace’s partner.

Mace has been missing ever since and her dear Chico has pined for days after his partner.

“He pined for her for a few days, he didn’t even eat,” Hunter explained.

Since Mace’s disappearance Hunter has put up notices, handed out flyers and has taken to the streets in search of her beloved pet.

Through the notices, she was informed of a Pekingese being sold at a major liquor outlet in Randfontein. She followed up on the lead and found the dog was not her Mace but another lost dog.

She took the dog in fear of where she would end up, thinking to look after it until such time as its owner could be found.

“I am appealing to the public to please help me find my lost Pekingese. She is three years of age and pure white. She has a skin irritation that needs care. Her male companion is very lonely and sad without her,” Hunter said.

If anyone has seen Mace or recognises the dog Hunter took into her home, they can contact the Herald‘s offices on 011 693 3671.
