Why you wait hours for an ambulance

Netcare911 warns against prank calls.

Netcare911 has recently released a statement discouraging members of the public from reporting fake medical emergencies.

They have stated that prank calls are a waste of valuable time and resources that could have been spent saving a life.

On Tuesday, 18 October Netcare911 received a call and was informed that a woman had been shot. It was explained the woman was in a critical condition and that the incident took place in Sebokeng.

An Emergency Care Practitioner (ECP), two Intermediate Life Support (ILS) paramedics and a Basic Life Support (BLS) medic raced to get to the scene and while inquiring about directions, paramedics didn’t find the scene and realised it was a prank call.

Netcare911 has stated that paramedics and medics put their lives and the lives of others on the line when they race to hoax emergencies. They say those who have a real emergency will have to wait longer for help.

They also call on parents to teach their children about the dangers of prank calling.
