Two children among 3 dead and 10 injured in weekend crashes

Tragedy struck Westonaria and Carletonville roads this weekend.

Tragedy struck several times on West Rand roads this past weekend, as one adult and two children lost their lives and eleven other people were injured in three separate crashes in Westonaria and Carletonville.

The first crash, in which two children of about 7 years of age were killed, took place on Saturday, 15 October at approximately 10.30am on Wedela Road, Carletonville.

When ER24 arrived on scene, they found the lifeless bodies of two little girls lying on the side of the road. It is believed that a vehicle collided with the vehicle they were in before crashing into a ditch on the side of the road. The driver and passenger of this car did not sustain any injuries.

The second crash took place near the infamous R28–N12 intersection in Westonaria, at approximately 10pm on Saturday, 15 October.

ER24 found two severely damaged vehicles on the road. It is believed that the vehicles collided. Three people were found in one of the vehicles, two of whom survived with moderate injuries but the third had sustained fatal injuries. In the other vehicle, two people were found with moderate injuries. The surviving patients were later transported to Carletonville Hospital for further medical treatment.

The other collision took place on Sunday, 16 October at approximately 5am.

Six people were injured after one vehicle rear-ended another on the R501 in Carletonville. All six patients sustained moderate injuries and were transported to Carletonville and The Fountains Hospitals.
