Drug awareness event to inform and support

Numerous former drug abusers will tell their stories at drug awareness event.

On Friday, 14 October a drug awareness event will be held at the Carryou Toekomsrus Drop-in Centre as part of an awareness campaign.

During this event the community will be informed about the importance of refusing drugs, as numerous former abusers will tell their stories. The aim is to address this issue by explaining the dangers and consequences of this deadly addiction.

“So many children are affected through this form of substance abuse. Once they become victims they drop out of school and basically throw their future out the window,” Constance Hlungwane, campaign organiser and Public Relations student from Vaal University of Technology said.

Toekomsrus Library will also be attending this event. They will stress the importance of education and reading, especially among children and teenagers.

To reach out to victims of abuse, Women Against Women and Child Abuse (Wawa) will be there to motivate and assist them.

Organisations participating in this event include Wawa, Westview/ Kimoja Project, Toekomsrus Library and Lesedi Community Projects.

“This is only the beginning. We really want to help the community through this joint operation. We welcome any member of the community to participate in this event, and if they can, donate anything from clothes to food and even toiletries,” Constance concluded.
