‘Peaceful protest’ from 10am – R’fontein taxis

Don't be alarmed, the gathering of a number of taxis on R28 is just a 'peaceful protest'.

On Tuesday morning (4 October) passing motorists noticed a number of taxis gathering near Uncle Harry’s Roadhouse on the R28. On asking what was going on, a mass taxi strike was mentioned, but the Herald has been assured that this is not the case.

According to Alfred Romaboa of the Randfontein Taxi Owners Association (RATAO), members of the association will be participating in what he described as a “peaceful protest”.

He went on to say, “Taxis from Mohlakeng are currently driving our customers straight to Krugersdorp, and we are losing business.”

Romaboa said further that the police had already been to the scene, and told the taxi drivers to keep their protest peaceful and not disturb traffic.

Meetings will take place from 10am to discuss the matter.
