Pageantry means more than just a pretty face

Mother and daughter beauty queen duo reach out to community.

Being a pageant queen means more than just having the looks, and Miss and Mrs Toekomsrus have proved that with their philanthropic community project.

The mother and daughter duo, Rozetta and Robin Patrick (Mrs and Miss Toekomsrus respectively) have taken it upon themselves to improve the lives of some of the children in Toekomsrus.

The two have started a community project to feed underprivileged families in Toekomsrus. They are also collecting funds for their raincoat project, in which they plan to buy waterproof clothing for the children in the area, to help those who walk to school during the wet summer months to keep dry.

“These children walk to school and sometimes they walk in the rain. If they get sick, they can develop pneumonia – and no child needs to get that,” Rozetta said.

The pair have been receiving donations of chicken from Stubbs Butchery in Westergloor. Rozetta says they give some of this chicken to families they have identified as in need. They’re also planning to cook and sell some of the other donations in order to raise funds to buy raincoats for children in the area.

The schools they are targeting include Hartzstraat Primary and Toekomsrus Primary School.

“We’re planning to cook and sell Thai chicken during mid-October, thereby raising funds for our project – and by the end of October we plan to buy rainwear for the children,” Rozetta explained.
