Man gets 13 years for killing ‘cheating’ girlfriend

Man convicted to 13 years for his girlfriend's murder after learning she'd 'cheated on him'.

Dumisane Biko, 32, was sentenced to 13 years imprisonment after stabbing his girlfriend multiple times for allegedly cheating on him.

Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson said Biko was sentenced in the Westonaria Regional Court on Monday 26 September.

The murder he was found guilty of took place just after midnight on 17 June this year in the Tambo section of Bekkersdal.

Lefakane explained the deceased was asleep next to her boyfriend, Biko, when she received a call from her ‘other boyfriend’. An argument ensued over the call before Biko took a knife and stabbed her multiple times.

He later walked to his father’s home in Simunye. The father alerted the police and following a swift response from Constables Ndivhuho Mudeli and Piet Mofokeng, the suspect was arrested.

“He was charged with murder and has been in custody since. Through an investigation led by detective Constable Kagiso Ramphore, the suspect was convicted and sentenced to 13 years imprisonment,” Lefakane said.

Colonel Mbangwa Nkhwashu, the Bekkersdal Police station commander applauded the members for their swift reaction and commended them for their good work.
