Free wheelchairs for the disabled, elderly

DA ward councillors hand over wheelchairs for the elderly and disabled.

A home for the disabled and an old age home were recently the lucky recipients of a number of free wheelchairs.

The wheelchairs, donated by The World Community Counselling Centre in Brandvlei, were distributed by DA Ward Councillors, Sina Erasmus and Peter Dick.

Since its inception, this church has supplied various organisations with wheelchairs free of charge, as they have chairs piled up to be distributed out of goodwill.

The wheelchairs come equipped with a pump for the wheels as well as a tool to fix the chair should it break. The chairs are perfect for the elderly as well as disabled residents as they are shower-friendly.

The Connie Mulder Centre received one of the donated chairs, which came as a very welcome surprise last Wednesday (21 September). Elona Uys from the centre said the chair is much appreciated and will be used well.

The other stop on the wheelchair donation trip was at the Randgate Old Age Home. The three ladies who accepted the chairs on behalf of the home had already planned how they would use them.

The councillors handed the chairs over as a way to give back to their community, and plan to give back much more with all the donations they received from the church.
