Brothers make a living out of sticks, nails

They're family breadwinners using just a few pieces of wood and nails.

From wooden panels and metal windmills to cement garden ornaments – these brothers can do it all.

Every day from 6am to 6pm R’fonteiners will find them, hard at work, on the corner of Malan Street and Raven Road.

Ishmael Tauzen and Maxwell Kachembere have found a way to combine their creative skills with a few pieces of wood and nails to create what many can’t even imagine. These two brothers have been making a living out of sticks and metal for about six years, and supporting their families on the proceeds.

“As the main breadwinners of our households, we had to find something reliable to earn a sustainable income,” Ishmael said.

They only use wood from the Magaliesburg area. The other materials they use to create ornaments and decorations they usually get from scrap yards.

“We are creative, we are designers. Sometimes you discover your talents through working for someone on a related project,” he said.

Although these brothers started small their business is growing day by day. Each day they produce up to 15 to 20 wooden panels which can serve as headboards, ceilings and palisades among many other things.

“We are thankful for all our clients who supports us a lot,” Ishmael concluded.
