Three suspected burglars arrested in Greenhills

Three suspected burglars were apprehended after EPR officers and an eye-witness worked together.

Three suspected burglars have been arrested after their vehicle – also suspected to be stolen – crashed into a tree in Greenhills on Friday, 23 September.

According to Douw Willemse, an EPR Security supervisor, they received a call from a resident complaining about the presence of a number of strangers in his yard. When the intruders heard the house alarm, they allegedly jumped the wall and drove off.

EPR then received another call about a suspicious car spotted in the Greenhills area.

According to an eye-witness, Johannes Mtshiselo, who is a security worker at the Department of Education, a white vehicle was speeding down the road followed by an EPR vehicle. The driver of the first vehicle then lost control on the corner of Kraaibos and Naartjie Street and collided with a tree.

Subsequently, three suspects got out of the car and tried to flee, but Mtshiselo and three EPR officials managed to catch them.

“We strongly suspect that these two crimes are linked. Even though we haven’t received a case of a missing car as such, we have reason to be suspicious as one of the number plates had been covered with another number plate with a different registration number,” Willemse said.

Local police and EPR Security also found numerous objects in the car that can be directly linked to an attempted break-in.

The suspects were handed over to local police.
