Randmark impress at Karoo to Coast

An impressive total of 13 cyclists from Randmark Club in Randfontein completed the gruelling Karoo to Coast 1 000km MTB Challenge recently.

Randmark Club recently participated in the Karoo to Coast 1 000km MTB Challenge for the first time and impressed.

The race stretches from Uniondale in the Karoo to Knysna in the Western Cape. Cyclists made their way through some breath-taking scenery, such as Prince Alfred’s Pass which they followed through the Outeniqua Mountains.

This year, the Karoo to Coast had a record number of 4 000 entries. As the cut-off time for completing this race is 8 hours, only 2 741 cyclists finished.

A total of 13 cyclists from Randmark Club completed the race, two of them doing exceptionally well.

Paul Kotze produced the best result for the club, as he was 37th out of 288 cyclists in his age group. The overall winning time for the race was three hours and 25 minutes whereas Paul finished the race in four hours and 32 minutes.

Of the club’s female entrants, Annamarie Jacobsz performed the best, finishing seventh out of 67 women in her age group. The overall winning time for the females was three hours and 48 minutes whereas Annamarie finished the race in five hours and eight minutes.

“The Karoo to Coast pushes one to the point of absolute exhaustion, and we had to dig real deep to finish that last killer climb and the next few kilometres. By doing this, we realised we had all successfully arrived at a new level of fitness. We all put in effort and training which definitely paid off,” said Karin Bezuidenhout, a Randmark Club spokesperson.
