Alleged suicide in Homelake

ER24 medics and paramedics were on scene and declared him dead upon arrival.

A man aged 26 died on a Homelake street after allegedly poisoning himself on Tuesday, 20 September.

The man died on Angelier Street, Homelake, near the Nola factory.

His girlfriend of seven months, who wished not to be named, told the Herald they allegedly had a fight before his passing which she believes is why he poisoned himself. She explained that whenever they fought, he would threaten to poison himself.

She said her boyfriend is not from Randfontein but lives in Soweto and came specifically to see her.

Lindie Beyl, a resident of the street said she saw the man have a fit from her home, and tried to help him but soon realised it was too late.

Various reports from community members who live on the street and who allegedly saw the young man die said they tried to help him by giving him milk to get the poison out of his system.

ER24 medics and paramedics were on scene and declared him dead upon arrival.

When the Herald arrived on scene, the man’s body was covered with a silver bag. Next to him stood a number of milk containers and a bucket.

Police later arrived to take statements and are currently awaiting for forensic services to come out to the scene.
