Husband tied up, wife raped

Police: The suspects are armed and dangerous.

Police have launched a manhunt for seven suspects after a barrage of crimes in Randfontein South during the weekend. All the incidents took place on Saturday, 10 September.

According to Constable Lucky Matome, the Tarlton Police spokesperson, the suspects, armed with firearms, first entered a home in Randfontein South. There they held up a 53-year-old man, taking his cellphones, DVD player, blankets and bank cards.

On the same night and on the same property, Matome said the suspects allegedly proceeded to the garage, where they found a 33-year-old woman and her family. The suspects allegedly tied the husband up and then raped the woman.

In the same area, the same suspects robbed two more houses, taking TVs, tablets, laptops and other valuables.

“The value of all the stolen items is not yet known. We are appealing to anyone who might have any information to assist the police in the investigation,” Matome said.

Information can be communicated to the Randfontein Detective Branch Commander on 011 278 8142 or alternatively on Crime Stop on 086 0010 111 (toll free).

“We also want to warn the community not to try and apprehend these criminals as they are armed and dangerous,” Matome said.

In other crime prevention operations held throughout the West Rand Police Cluster during the course of the past week, 394 suspects were arrested.

Matome said most of the suspects were arrested for:
