New running twins on the block

Thebe and Tumelo Mohlakeng from Primary School are flying the flag high for their school and family.

Mohlakeng has a set of running twins on the rise in Thebe and Tumelo Mabote – both pupils at Mohlakeng Primary School.

But the Mabotes are not the only local running twins – there are also the Molefe sisters, consisting of Kefiloe, who runs for Randmark and Keneiloe (who now runs under the surname Sesing, for KMPG), who are the senior twins in the women’s senior category.

Thebe and Tumelo run for Baobab Athletics Club and are coached by Ofentse Ntimane. They are also raising eyebrows in the Central Gauteng Athletics Cross-Country League, in the U/8 section.

They have had some good performances in the local schools’ cross-country league’s U/9 section, regularly placing first and second, but on Friday 19 August at Hartzstraat Primary School, rival Lesibe Dikgale from Randfontein Primary School – also from the Baobab Athletics Club – was the reason the twins didn’t finish one and two – Lesibe placed second. Lesibe was also victorious at Laerskool Rapportryer (Rappies) on 12 August, outrunning both the twins.

Running seems to be in the Mabeto family as their father, Paseka and their mother, Mpho, are seasoned athletes. The twins’ older brother, Bokang, who is at Sedimosang Primary School, is also a top athlete in the U/12 boys’ section.
