On Wednesday, 31 August, Randgate Spar announced the winner of its Spar Win a Car Competition.
After three months of ever-increasing tension, it was time to reveal the new owner of the Spar special edition Hyundai I10.
Customers had to spend more than R150 at the Randgate Spar for their names to be entered into the draw. All the entry slips were then thrown into the car. On the day of the draw, a Spar employee climbed into the car and stirred up the hundreds of slips to even the chances.
The owner of the Spar, Robert Farinha, then picked a random shopper to draw the lucky slip, thus making the competition as honest and fair as possible.
When Robert phoned the winner, Klara Holenstein answered. To her utter surprise, Robert congratulated her on winning the competition. Ten minutes later, the almost 79-year-old Klara, who lives in Wheatlands, arrived at the Spar with her face in her hands, completely overwhelmed.
“I am so nervous and excited, this is so wonderful. I shop at Spar all the time, but every time I entered, I never really put much thought into it. Oh, what a blessing, I can’t wait to drive it,” she concluded.
