Woman seriously injured in four-vehicle crash

Jaws of Life used to free trapped woman following accident.

A 34-year-old woman was left seriously injured after a four vehicle collision on Meyers Street in Potchefstroom on Tuesday afternoon.

ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene and found all four of the vehicles in the middle of the road. Several drivers and passengers were found walking around on the scene.

“On further inspection, paramedics found a woman lying trapped inside one of the light motor vehicles. Assessments showed that the woman was in a serious condition. Rescue services on scene used the jaws-of-life equipment to free the woman from the vehicle, taking only a short few minutes,” said Russel Meiring, ER24 spokesperson.

He added, “Once freed, paramedics treated the patient and provided her with advanced life support intervention before she was transported to Mediclinic Potchefstroom for urgent treatment.”

Several other people were assessed and found to have escaped injury. The cause of this incident is not yet known.
