Murdered Pelser baby’s family break their silence

Detectives spent 'whole weekend' with family.

A day before Marthinus Pelser, 22, was to appear in court again, Linda (surname withheld), grandmother of the deceased six-month-old baby, spoke to the media for the first time since the tragedy.

Pelser will appear in the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court today (31 August), with magistrate Delize Smith presiding.

Linda told the Record that last week detectives took another statement from the baby boy’s mom regarding a damning message Pelser wrote in a book before fleeing. She also said the detectives “spent the whole weekend” with the family and that she, Linda, signed her statement yesterday. Although known to the Record, the message can not be published yet, due to it being evidence.

Linda also said the detectives have finally received the autopsy report and that she was “glad they could see what was done to him (the baby)”.

It is alleged that Pelser murdered his six-month-old son on 11 June. He went on the run for five days before being arrested.
