Drug dealer gets a slap on the wrist

Drug dealer gets 40 days or R400 fine.

A 36-year-old man has been convicted for dealing in dagga, but will only be jailed for a little over a month – or pay a R400 fine.

According to Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, the Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, the arrest was made at about 8pm last Tuesday.

Lefakane said Sergeant Libudi Nong of the Intervention Unit was conducting his routine patrol along Matimba Street in Simunye when he received a tip-off about a person selling dagga.

Nong followed up on the information, proceeded to the address and upon arrival, he allegedly found a man fitting the description he’d been given earlier.

“He noticed a plastic bag on the table. When he examined it, he found small loose plastic bags containing dagga inside,” Lefakane said.

The suspect was arrested and made a brief appearance in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court last Thursday where he was found guilty and was sentenced to 40 days’ imprisonment with the option of a R400 fine.
