Baby sanctuary launched in Greenhills

There is a new place of safety for all abandoned and neglected babies in Greenhills.

We live in a time where little bundles of joy are often neglected or unwanted and the outcome is rather horrendous.

Too often one hears of a baby being abandoned somewhere unthinkable. Two of the reasons given for this sad state of affairs are that the babies are usually the product of prostitution, or too expensive for the parents to maintain.

This is exactly why Georgina Caetano decided to open the Just In Time Baby Sanctuary in Greenhills. The sanctuary is a temporary place of safety, in addition to The Cradle of Hope House of Restoration in Krugersdorp, and is an NGO that is completely dependent on the faith and good will of the community.

The sanctuary was launched on Saturday, 27 August, with Miss Johannesburg Phenice le Roux, and Miss Pre-teen Africa Cayla van Eden among the many who attended the event.

Georgina would like thank each and every person who supported her in any manner.

“Abandoned babies are my passion in the sense that I will have the privilege of looking after them until they find a foster or adoptive family,” she said.

At the moment, Georgina is a temporary safe care parent, which means she is allowed to take in up to six babies between the ages of birth and 2 years at a time. She will take care of them for periods of three months to a year. Her facility is currently going through the process of becoming a registered place of safety, where she will be able to take in 10 to 15 babies at a time.

She has already received the first little girl to take care of. “She hadn’t been here very long before she crawled into my heart completely. I can’t wait to look after her as my own,” Georgina said in her speech before cutting the ribbon to open her facility.
