Boy, 10, killed: Mom and mom’s boyfriend arrested

Mom, boyfriend arrested for the murder of her 10-year-old son.

The West Rand Cluster Police made 398 arrests during the week of Friday, 19 to Sunday, 28 August, including an arrest for the murder of a 10-year-old boy.

With regard to the murder of the child, Captain Appel Ernst, the Randfontein Police spokesperson said a 30-year-old mother and her 38-year-old boyfriend were arrested for the brutal murder in Kagiso.

In addition, two alleged housebreakers were assaulted by Khutsong community members after being caught in possession of stolen goods.

Ernst said the two male suspects aged 32 and 34 are currently under police guard in Carletonville Hospital after a citizens’ arrest in Khutsong. The suspects allegedly committed a housebreaking in the area and when apprehended by members of the community, they were still in possession of the stolen goods. The community then assaulted the suspects and police had to intervene.

The joint operation lead to many other arrests.

• Murder

• Attempted murder

• Rape

• House-robbery

• Housebreaking

• Theft

• Assault

• Possession of drugs

• Possession of stolen property

• Contravening the Liquor Act

• Trespassing

• Drunkenness

Acting station commander for the West Rand Cluster Police, Brigadier Sipho Ngubane, congratulated all members of the police who assisted in the arrests. “The West Rand Cluster is a safer place because of the vigilance of our communities and the tenacity of our members, who track down suspects wherever they may hide,” Ngubane said.
