Our Miss Jo’burg to spread the love

'I want to involve the community in supporting Imfundu Educare.'

Phenice le Roux (Randfontein’s own Miss Johannesburg, who was recently featured in the Herald) hasn’t failed to deliver, and still lives by her motto that education is the key to success.

On Friday, 19 August, Phenice will be attending the Miss Tinkerbell and Mr Peter Pan pageant at the Carnival City Rio Ballroom. This charity-driven pageant will be hosted by Phenice in conjunction with the Role Models Foundation in an effort to raise funds for her current project, Imfundu Educare – a crèche in Diepsloot. Other hostesses will include finalists from the Mrs Johannesburg, Mrs Pretoria-Tshwane and Mrs Gauteng competitions.

Phenice’s aim is to equip Imfundu Educare with synthetic grass, plastic jungle gyms and alphabet foam puzzles. Although she is able to supply this crèche with food on a regular basis, she hopes to receive donations to supply them with colourful toys and play equipment.

“It breaks my heart to know they have no play equipment or colourful learning toys. I want to supply them with colour in the form of synthetic grass, alphabet foam puzzles and small jungle gyms. Being surrounded by colour will make them eager to learn. I want to make learning fun for them,” she said.

Not only does she want to support the children, she aims to support the teachers as well by raising funds to compensate them for their hard work every month.

“I want to involve the community in supporting Imfundu Educare by engaging with schools and other organisations to help make the best of this crèche, which is filled with potential,” Phenice concluded.
