Cormorant Street finally repaired

One of the town's most potholed roads gets retarred.

When thinking about potholes, one street took the cake as the worst affected street in Randfontein – Cormorant Street, Eike Park. But this is now a thing of the past.

The upper section of the road was re-tarred roundabout the time the local government elections took place.

“The [Cormorant-Sugarbird Streets] intersection got to a point where you couldn’t cross it. People would use the shopping complex to cross over from the next street, and because they use the upper section of the street more, it started to show wear-and-tear at the top as well,” said Craig Harrison, DA Ward 7 councillor.

Craig described the road as being a thorn in his side since he was first elected as a councillor. He said it had been on his Integrated Development Plan (IDP) for the past five years and he had sent various emails to the old Randfontein Local Municipality to get the road repaired.

He is ecstatic about the re-tarring of the road, but said that one thing is still missing, namely, repairs to a drain which has collapsed completely.

Nevertheless, he would like to thank all the officials who made the repairs to the road possible, and said he has four more priority roads on his list, namely Mossie Massyn, Angelier, Jacaranda and Hammerkop Streets.

“There are other problem roads in my ward as well, but those four roads are top priority because of the state they’re in,” Craig said.

Craig was re-elected in his ward, and the repairs to Cormorant Street are one of the first improvements to the ward in his new term.
