Alleged victim of church attack speaks out

'She started hitting me from behind.'

The alleged victim of a recent attack in a Toekomsrus church has spoken out.

Violet Padeyachee, 65, the alleged victim of an attack by another elderly woman, Trudy Haywood, said she has now opened up a case of assault at the Randfontein Police.

The case comes after Haywood attacked her with an offering basket during a church service on Sunday, 14 August. A video of the alleged attack has emerged.

“I was talking to my sister when she started hitting me from behind. We weren’t fighting. I didn’t do anything to her, she started hitting me,” Padeyachee said.

She also disputed the reason Haywood gave for the attack. “She [Haywood] said the priest was slapped. He was never slapped,” Padeyachee said.

She explained that she is very upset by the incident and cannot believe another elderly woman would attack her.
