Opportunity for enthusiastic young writers

The objective of the Skryf Net writing competition is to seek out, encourage, recognise and generally honour creative writing excellence among primary school pupils in South Africa.

All primary school children are invited to participate in the 2016 Skryf Net short story writing competition.

The objective of the Skryf Net competition is to seek out, encourage, recognise and generally honour creative writing excellence among primary school pupils in South Africa.

The competition comprises two age categories: 6 to 9 years old and 10 to 13 years old.

Children wishing to enter the competition should write a new story on any topic imaginable. Stories should not be rewrites, but should rather be new, fresh and original stories. Written work may be edited by an adult for spelling mistakes only. The story must not exceed 1 000 words.

Entries must preferably be typed in any font and be double spaced. Hand-written entries will also be accepted, as long as the writing is clear and legible. Children can write their stories in Afrikaans, English, Sotho or Zulu.

The story should preferably be printed on one side of A4 paper. All pages must show the story title and the name and surname of the writer.

Entries should include the author’s contact details and include a parent’s or guardian’s telephone number. Entries should be posted to: Skryf Net Writing Competition, PO Box 82046, Southdale 2135.

Entries may be also emailed to SkryfNetcompetition@gmail.com.

Finalists will receive a letter or email notification and may be asked to attend an interview to read their own story at an award show that will take place on 30 September 2016.

The winners of the competition will not only be rewarded with the admiration of their teachers and fellow school pupils – they will also receive a book voucher to the value of R450. The runners-up will receive book vouchers valued at R150.

Entries close on 30 August 2016.
