Summit held to empower women

Well-known faces in the West Rand urge women to never give up.

 Influential women within the town held a Women’s Summit to empower the town’s women.

A total of 80 women attended the summit held on Saturday (23 July) in Randfontein.

Melinda du Plessis, personal assistant to the West Rand Executive Mayor served as the programme director and invited well-known faces in the West Rand including the Randfontein Executive Mayor, Mzi Khumalo to attend the event.

Melinda du Plessis, programme director of the event hopes to see many more events like the recent summit to empower women.

Khumalo’s role in the summit was to give attendees the run-down on the upcoming merger of Randfontein and Westonaria, forming the Rand West City Local Municipality. This was done to keep women informed with the financial and political happenings in town.

Khumalo’s wife and first lady of Randfontein, Ntsiki, a well-known gospel singer attended the event as well. She urged women to never give up their dreams like she who never gave up on her’s.

She was not the only one urging women to keep going strong, local singer, Fikile Farrow and Violet Nqina-Mzondeki, district MMC for local economic development were used as proof that if women set out goals for themselves, they will eventually be achieved.

Lerato Afilaka, district operations manager for the West Rand Sedibeng District Municipalities Home Affairs acted as a guest speaker who motivated women and spoke of the values of strong women.

Organisers of the event are hoping to have more events like this one in the near future.
