Father who allegedly murdered child goes to mental hospital

The suspect has been sent for a 30-day psychiatric observation period.

The man accused of murdering his 5-year-old daughter last year has been sent to a psychiatric hospital for a 30-day evaluation.

The father, 29, appeared in the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court on 21 July, and was sent to Sterkfontein Psychiatric Hospital to be observed for 30 days to determine his mental health.

He is expected back in court on 21 August where the magistrate will make a decision regarding his mental health.

Keandre Louw was murdered in June last year. Police found her lifeless body in Aureus at approximately 9.40pm on 10 June. Shortly after her death, her 29-year-old father was arrested.

The suspect allegedly also tried to commit suicide,” Ernst said.

According to Fazil Bhana, who knows the family quite well, the father was allegedly involved in drugs, specifically tik (methamphetamine).

Keandre was laid to rest at the Toekomsrus Cemetery on 18 June, just two days after Youth Day last year.
