A baby has died in a fire while her mother was at a neighbour’s house.
According to Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson, the blaze occurred on Monday, 25 July, in Zenzele. The mother allegedly left her baby daughter sleeping in her shack while she went to a neighbour’s house. When the mother returned, the shack was on fire.
Emergency Management Services responded, but had to declare the baby dead on scene.
Ernst said the cause of the fire is not yet known and is currently being investigated.
“The body was removed to a government mortuary and an inquest is under way,” Ernst said.
