Woman raped in R’fontein veld

'We are pleading to the community to refrain from walking alone'

The Bekkersdal Police have launched a manhunt for a rapist-cum-robber.

According to Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, an incident took place at about 12.30pm on Friday, 22 July, near the bridge connecting Simunye and Bekkersdal.

The victim was allegedly walking to Simunye when she was confronted by an individual armed with a knife. The woman was then allegedly forced at knife-point into the veld nearby.

“The man ordered her to undress and penetrated her without using a condom. He demanded her cellphone and instructed her to wipe herself,” Lefakane said.

The victim managed to walk to the Bekkersdal Police Station to lay a charge against the suspect who is still at large.

Lefakane added, “We are pleading with the community to refrain from walking alone in secluded areas. Rather use an open road or walk in groups. We are also appealing to the community to assist with information that could lead to the arrest of this suspect.”

Information can be reported to the Carletonville FCS on 082 778 9048.
