Baby body parts found on pavement

Police are investigating a concealment of birth case.

The recent discovery in Randgate of a refuse bag allegedly containing the decomposing body parts of a baby is currently under intense police investigation.

Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson, said the body was found at about 1.30pm on Saturday, 16 July.

A gardener in the Randgate area allegedly saw the bag on the pavement near his workplace. He was then allegedly told to remove the bag as it was thought to be causing a blockage in the drainage system. He allegedly noticed that the bag contained something foul smelling.

“The police were called and discovered that the bag contained part of the body of a baby,” Ernst said.

The Randfontein Police are now investigating a case of concealment of birth. The investigating officer, Warrant Officer Pappas Mhlongo is urging the community to come forward with any information that might lead to the tracing of the person who discarded the baby’s body. Mhlongo can be reached on 011 278 8100.
