Motivation for demotivated pupils

How to stay motivated from a former Hoërskool Riebeeckrand pupil.

A former pupil of Hoërskool Riebeeckrand would like to motivate current Randfontein matriculants as well as other pupils, bearing in mind that the end of the year exams are just around the corner.

Natasha Pindral is currently studying what she loves at university, far, far away from home. Her dream of becoming a marine biologist is fast becoming a reality as she was accepted by the University of Cape Town to study in this field.

However, Natasha makes it clear that it wasn’t always easy going.

It is extremely hard to stay motivated when you feel overwhelmed by the workload in matric,” she said.

She suggests listening to motivational speakers every now and then, just to keep your mind-set positive. Here are some motivational quotes that helped her stay positive during demotivated times.

“It’s not about how hard you hit, it’s about how hard you get hit and still move forward, how much you can take and still move forward. That is how winning is done.” – Rocky Balboa

“A smooth sea never made a skilful sailor.” – Franklin D. Roosevelt

“I hated every minute of training but I said don’t quit. Suffer not and live the rest of your life a champion.” – Muhammad Ali

“You must be willing to do what others won’t do to have what others won’t have.” – Les Brown.

“Strength doesn’t come from what you can do. It comes from overcoming the things you once thought you couldn’t.” – Rikki Rogers

“It is hard to beat a person who never gives up.” – Babe Ruth

Every accomplishment starts with the decision to try.” – Napoleon Hill.

“If you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing its stupid.” – Albert Einstein.

Natasha says getting up early every morning to study for a matric exam isn’t fun, but it rewarded her in ways she couldn’t imagine.

“Being in matric is like being on a ship. The winds are ripping through your sails and you can barely stand on your feet. Your eyes are burning because of the salt water that gushes overboard from the crashing waves, which don’t seem to quit. Sometimes all you can do is keep paddling just to keep your ship afloat.

“When you’re up at 2am it’s like your ship threw you overboard and all you can do is keep on swimming so you don’t drown. If the swells are big, it’s hard to see the shore, but you know it’s there and you know it’s close. So keep paddling and keep swimming.”
