High-speed chase between construction vehicle, cops

The suspect was arrested and will face two criminal charges.

A 31-year-old man was arrested after a high-speed chase with police.

According to Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, the incident took place at about 1am on (18 July) near a Bekkersdal construction site.

The Bekkersdal Police received information about a CAT grader (construction vehicle) that was stolen and that the suspect was en route to Simunye. Lefakane said officers Constable Lucky Baloyi and Constable Ndivhuo Mudeli proceeded in the same direction as the stolen vehicle and eventually spotted it.

The suspect saw the police vehicle and brought the grader to a halt before fleeing on foot. While chasing the suspect, police saw him throw something on the ground which was later discovered to be an unlicensed firearm.

The suspect was arrested and is facing charges of business robbery and being in possession of an unlicensed firearm.
