BREAKING: Suspects target old age home

The suspects were caught and handed over to police.

Two suspects have been arrested after breaking into the Friendship Haven Old Age Home.

According to Johan Krogh, EPR general manager, Jannie van den Heever, EPR’s Red Eye CCTV camera operator for Friendship Haven noticed suspects fiddling with the Haven’s main gate at approximately 12:20am this morning (22 July).

The suspects allegedly lifted the gate off its rails to gain entry. That’s when EPR sent two response units to the premises.

The EPR shift leader, Brendan Blom and reaction officer Emile Rothman succeeded in trapping the suspects on the premises. The suspects were also in possession of equipment used to break into cars. They were arrested and handed over to the Randfontein Police for further investigation.

Amanda van Niekerk, Friendship Haven’s COO said the suspects did not get away with anything this time. She explained that the old age home in Randgate, which forms part of Friendship Haven, had also recently been targeted.

Van Niekerk assured residents that Friendship Haven will have their cameras upgraded, and reminded them that they recently extended their electric fencing to ensure suspects cannot gain entry to the premises.

She said they need to keep their residents safe, especially the residents who live outside the main building.
