Boy, 12, among five injured in crash

Crash believed to the result of a skipped stop street.

Five people, including a 12-year-old boy, were injured in a crash at the R28–N12 intersection in Westonaria this morning.

According to Werner Vermaak, ER24 spokesperson, the crash occurred at approximately 7:30am.

Vermaak said ER24 paramedics found that a Volvo had crashed through a barrier at the intersection, and a VW Polo had come to a standstill a few meters away.

Three passengers in the Volvo sustained minor injuries, but were found walking around the scene when the paramedics arrived. Two of the VW Polo’s occupants, including the 12-year-old boy, were found to have sustained moderate injuries after being extricated from their vehicle.

All the injured were transported to a nearby hospital for further medical care.

Vermaak said one of the vehicles is believed to have skipped the stop street at the intersection and collided with the other, but the exact cause of the collision has still to be investigated.
