RPA gives back to the community

Everyone is included from the young to the old to the recyclers.

Every winter the Randfontein Publicity Association (RPA) gives back to the community.

“With the Randfontein Show each year the community supports us and now we would like to support the community,” Joy Hamman, RPA publicity officer said.

This year the RPA distributed over 100 blankets and over R10 000 worth of food to various organisations and individuals in need through their Winter Charity Drive.

“There is such a need in our town and it gives us enormous pleasure to help as much as we are able to.

“It’s impossible to help everyone and every year we try to give to different NGOs and disadvantaged families in Mohlakeng, Toekomsrus, Randfontein central and rural areas,” Joy said.

Not only do some RPA members donate money and blankets, but they interact with the community as well. Every year they invite the elderly from local old age homes to knit items such as blankets, beanies and socks with them.

This year they donated blankets and food parcels to Healing Zizabantu Home-Based Care and Trudy’s Nest – a haven for the elderly. They donated blankets and bulk food for feeding schemes as well to St John’s, Sisi Gogo Drop-In Centre, Home Based Care and Church of the Nazarene Vacation Bible School.

That’s not all. The RPA made it their business to involve several people who collects recyclable items from resident’s garbage in order to make a living. They went on a drive through Randfontein to give these people and also families and homeless people in need blankets and food parcels.

“We give everything in good faith,” she said.

The food parcels include toiletries as well as non-perishable foodstuffs.

“We cannot undertake something like this on our own. We thank our corporate sponsors and several RPA members for their contribution to the RPA annual Winter Charity Drive,” she said.
