Woman devastated after new car disappears from parking lot

Woman finds her parking space empty after shift at local healthcare facility.

A 27-year-old healthcare worker’s new white Toyota Yaris was allegedly stolen on Sunday 26 June during her shift at Life Robinson Private Hospital.

Phindile Risibe, who claims her car was stolen from the parking lot, said she was devastated by the sight of an empty parking space after clocking out at about 7pm.

“One of my co-workers stopped me on my way out and asked me why I came back after my shift had finished,” Risibe said. The co-worker saw her empty parking space and assumed that she had left a few hours earlier.

Risibe went to the security office to look at the security footage of the parking lot but was disappointed when she learned that the security camera didn’t cover the area where she parked.

Dr Marinda Overbeek, hospital manager said as soon as it came to their attention that the vehicle was stolen, action was taken. “The South African Police Service was notified and a joint internal investigation process between Life Robinson Private Hospital and our security company commenced,” Overbeek said.

Risibe said it bothers her that the security guards knew what vehicle she drives but didn’t stop the car when they saw it wasn’t she who drove it from the premises. She now has to depend on her husband to take her to work in the morning and back home every evening.

She said her vehicle can also be identified by its registration number YYF803GP. It has a large learner-driver sticker in the back window.

“If you work at a business, go to the security office and check the camera coverage before you park in a blind area to prevent the same from happening to you,” Risibe warned.

“We wish to reassure the community that Life Robinson Private Hospital is safe. We have taken additional measures to ensure this,” Overbeek said.
